what are the different types of tourmaline?

Like with many gemstones that you can choose, tourmaline comes in many different varieties. The one that you choose can often determine the type of healing that you are able to get from the stone. You may choose it based on your favorite color, the healing that you want, or even your birthstone to name a few. Some of the most common types of tourmaline to consider are

It is common for the tourmaline stone to start at one color, or be predominantly one color, but have a tip, or both tips, that change into a new color too. This is part of what makes the tourmaline so unique.

  • Verdelite: This is a green tourmaline that can range from deep, rich green all the way to peridot. It can be transparent and even have a bluish hue to it.

  • Pink tourmaline: If a bit of manganese comes in contact with the tourmaline, then you are going to get pink. This can be a really pretty color and may help come back to love in some cases.

  • Dravites are yellow and brown tourmalines and scholr will be black tourmaline.

  • Rubellite can range in color based on what you see and where it is found, but it often has at least a bit of red in it. Whether that is a purplish red, orange red, or a brownish red will depend. It is as pretty as a ruby and will have some of the same coloring behind it. The coloring can change depending on the light source if you have a shocking pink tourmaline.

  • Chrome tourmaline is going to be an intense green, even more than what you see with the verdelite above. If you see one that looks like it could be a jewel, then this is the chrome tourmaline.

  • Blue tourmaline is going to be a dark almost purple blue or a greenish blue, though some are all blue. You will see it named as indicolite or indigolite depending on the hues that go with the blue.

  • Cat’s eye tourmaline is going to have an effect that is known as chatoyancy and there can be a few different colors that kind of swirl and go with one another.

  • Mohrenkopf: This is a tourmaline that is black at the ends and colorless in the middle. It is named after a popular German cake that follows the same kind of design.

origin and history

Tourmaline was first discovered in the late 1600s by Dutch traders when they were on the West Coast of Italy. They were amazed by all the different colors and some of the properties that came with tourmaline and decided to take it home with them. The name originally comes from the term “turmali” which was the name used for all of the colored crystals found at the time in Sri Lanka. This name shows that many of the ancient gem dealers found it difficult to differentiate tourmaline from some of the other stones at the time. In fact, it was common for some of the red and pink tourmaline gems to be considered rubies, even though there are some differences.

Tourmaline has been a rare jewel for a lot of time, with the Chinese using them to turn into carved figures. There are still many ancient examples displayed in museums, which helps us to really see the durability of this stone.

Chakras are the centers of energy in our body. There are seven of them and when they are open, energy can flow from the top of the head to the base of the spine. But when one of them is closed, it can cause a number of mental and physical ailments that just get worse until you find a way to clean them up.

Tourmaline can also help to unblock some of your chakras. The color that you choose will have a big influence on whether the chakras are unblocked or not. To start this process, you need to take a look at which chakra is blocked in the moment and then find which tourmaline color is going to help. When ready, you can lay down in a quite area, place the gemstone on the proper chakra location, breathe calmly, and give the tourmaline time to work.

the zodiac signs associated with tourmaline

The tourmaline stone is linked to those who have been born under the Libra sign. Tourmalines are supposed to bring more balance to your life, just like the Libra can do as the balance or scale.
